My photo upscaler went from mush to sharp in 3 weeks and I finally see what all the fuss is about
I do freelance design work and I had a batch of old client logos from 2011 that were tiny, like 200 pixels wide, and I needed them for a print job. For the first two weeks I tried the free online upscalers and every single one turned the edges into a blurry mess with weird little halos around the letters. Then I switched to a newer model that uses a diffusion based approach and ran the same 12 logos through it over a weekend. The before and after was wild, the hard edges came back clean and I could actually zoom in without seeing that smeared watercolor look. Has anyone here found a version that handles text on curved paths without adding fake looking swirls?
Saw a thread on a design sub a while back where someone ran into the same thing with curved text, and the fix they landed on was feeding the upscaler a cleaner source first, like vectorizing the logo roughly and then letting the diffusion model work off that. The curly letters and paths are basically the hardest case because the model has to guess where the curve is going, so it invents those little swirls to fill the gap. Passing it a higher contrast black and white version seemed to cut down on the fake detail a lot for them. Might be worth a shot since you only have 12 to mess with anyway.
