Vent: I thought AI image tools were just toys until I ran 40 of my old photos through one
I used to roll my eyes at anyone saying AI could fix old family photos. Then in March I scanned 40 pictures from my grandma's album in Portland, and the one from 1968 where my grandpa's face was half blurred came back sharp enough to see his freckles. What convinced me was watching a tool named GFPGAN pull detail out of a photo that was scanned at only 300 dpi. I keep seeing people say these tools just make stuff up, and yeah, that happens, but it nailed the shirt buttons and the fence behind him too. The trick was running it on a small crop first instead of the whole image, which a guy in a forum thread taught me. Has anyone else had luck with old film scans, or does it always turn faces into plastic for you?
