Watching a demo at the Seattle tech meetup made me question the whole 'AI art is just a tool' argument.

The presenter showed an AI generating a complete graphic novel page in 30 seconds, and someone in the crowd said 'this just makes artists faster,' but I left thinking it actually replaces the fundamental creative process of drafting and iteration that defines the craft.

Wait a full graphic novel page in half a minute? That's insane. I mean, the whole point of making something like that is the work you put into it, the sketches and the changes you make along the way. Taking that out feels like you're just ordering a picture, not really making art. It's a totally different thing than someone using a tool to help them draw faster.

Reminds me of the instant cake mix debate back in the day.

Seattle tech meetups always attract the same crowd that thinks any new tech is the next big thing. I mean yeah, a page in 30 seconds is fast but that demo probably cherrypicked the single best output out of like 50 tries. I've seen those tools fail hard on basic stuff like consistent character design or keeping panel flow logical. The whole debate feels overblown to me honestly. Artists have been adapting to new tools forever, this is just the latest one.
