Dismissed those AI voice cloning warnings as hype until my cousin got scammed
I kept seeing articles about AI voice cloning and thought it was exaggerated... then last month my cousin in Austin got a call that sounded exactly like his daughter begging for bail money. He didn't think twice and wired $500. The real daughter was safe at college the whole time. Anyone else know someone who nearly fell for this kind of thing?

Yeah that "begging for bail money" part got me. My buddy in Denver got a voicemail that was his nephew crying, saying he crashed the car and needed cash for a lawyer. Sounded just like him, even had that little stutter the kid has. He was halfway to the bank when his sister texted asking if he heard from the nephew that day. Turns out the kid was just at work the whole time.

Man I'd probably fall for that too, I'm not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
