Stumbled on a stat that blew my mind about AI training costs

I was reading a random tech blog on my lunch break and found out that training one big AI model can use as much electricity as a small town burns in a year, has anyone else seen these energy numbers and thought they seem way too wild to be real?

That "as much as a small town" figure always stuck with me too, but nobody mentions the cooling water those data centers need, which is a whole other resource bill we don't see on the headline.
