Am I the only one who heard a chef say to preheat the air fryer empty for 5 minutes and now nothing sticks?
I saw a cooking demo at the library in Reno where the chef said most people skip the empty preheat, and since I tried it my nuggets and fries come out crispy instead of soggy, so what temp and time do you all use for that preheat?
So we're all just out here preheating an empty basket like it's a tiny oven now? Mine just sits there looking sad while I stare at it for 5 minutes. I do 400 for 3 minutes and my fries stopped coming out limp, so the chef was onto something.
Watching my air fryer preheat is honestly the most productive part of my day, and that says a lot about me. I'll stand there like it's a campfire and I'm waiting for s'mores while it just blows hot air at nothing. Tried the preheat thing after seeing everyone swear by it and yeah, my frozen fries went from soggy sadness to actually crispy, so I guess the tiny oven people were right. My old method was just dumping them in cold and hoping for the best, which worked about as well as you'd expect. Three minutes at 400 seems to be the magic number for me too, though I've definitely forgotten it was preheating and came back to a basket that was just hot and lonely. Beth, you're making me feel seen with the staring thing, at least we're suffering together.
