Half my veggies caught fire at a cookout in Tulsa last month

I brought my air fryer to a family cookout and set it up on the picnic table to do some roasted corn and zucchini spears. The wind was kicking up and I didn't think about the paper liner I'd left in the basket, it must have shifted and touched the heating coil. Within two minutes I smelled burning and pulled out black chunks, the corn on the far side was still raw too. Now I never use paper liners at all, just a light oil spray and I keep the basket at least six inches from anything. Has anyone else had a liner ignite or smoke really bad, or am I the only clumsy one here?

Man, I used to think those paper liners were harmless too. I figured they'd just get a little brown and greasy, no big deal. But after reading this, I get it now, that heat coil is a lot closer than I ever thought. I've had smoke pour out of mine before when a liner folded up, but I always blamed the food. You're not clumsy, that's just a bad design waiting to happen. Oil spray and keeping things spaced out sounds like the only real way to go.
