Just learned that air fryers use way less oil than I thought

I was reading the manual that came with my new air fryer and it said you only need like a teaspoon of oil for a whole batch of fries. I always thought you needed at least a tablespoon or two to get them crispy. Tried it last night with frozen fries and a quick spray of olive oil and they turned out perfect. Has anyone else found that less oil works better for certain foods?

My friend just told me she got the same advice about her rice cooker - using less water than the lines suggest makes fluffier rice. So it really seems like a lot of times we overcomplicate things when less is actually more with kitchen gadgets. @cameron684, your point about air circulation makes total sense with this whole less is more thing across different appliances.

Read somewhere that less oil actually helps the hot air circulate better and get things crunchier.
