My neighbor said air fryer chicken wings are a waste of time

I was talking to my neighbor, Frank, yesterday while taking out the trash. He saw my air fryer through the window and said, 'You can't get real crispy wings in that thing, you need a deep fryer.' I told him I do 400 degrees for 24 minutes, flipping halfway, and they come out perfect. He just shrugged. It got me thinking, what's the one food people told you wouldn't work in an air fryer that actually does?

Honestly I gotta push back on that one, @nancy_davis. I tried the buttered sourdough air fryer grilled cheese thing and it came out dry as hell on the outside with the cheese barely melted in the middle. Had to nuke it for like 30 seconds after to get it edible. Meanwhile I've been doing my grilled cheese the old school way in a cast iron pan with mayo instead of butter and it's way better. Same goes for frozen pizza I'd rather just use the oven and get a crispy crust than deal with the weird hot spots an air fryer gives you.

My old roommate swore you couldn't do a proper grilled cheese in an air fryer, said it would just be dry toast. I do buttered sourdough with cheddar at 370 for about 6 minutes, pressing it down with a spatula halfway. It gets that perfect crunch without being greasy. It's like @singh.uma said about frozen pizza, some things just work against the odds. Frank might need to try a different recipe for those wings.
