Parchment paper in my air fryer almost started a fire. Is it ever safe?
Ngl, I was making chicken wings last night and lined the basket with parchment paper. Halfway through, the paper lifted up and hit the heating coil. My kitchen filled with smoke and the wings were ruined. Some of my friends say parchment paper is a must for cleanup, but others warn it's a hazard. Honestly, I'm not sure what to believe now. Have you guys had similar issues? Where do you stand on using parchment paper in air fryers?

Yeah, that easy cleanup never seemed worth the fire risk to me either. After reading what happened to @grantk61, I just soak my basket now.

Actually, air fryer liners are fine if you get the right kind. The paper ones can catch fire, but silicone liners are safe and still help with cleanup. Just avoid anything that might blow around near the heating element.

Watched my neighbor try to air fry a whole frozen pizza last week. The box said not to, but he was convinced it would work. Smoke alarm went off before the crust even thawed. Sometimes the easy cleanup isn't worth the risk of setting off every detector in the building. I stick to the basket now, no liners, and just accept the scrubbing.
