Tried air frying bacon and set off the smoke detector twice

I was making bacon in my air fryer at 400 degrees and didn't realize how much grease would splatter. After the second smoke alarm went off, I pulled it out and dropped the temp to 350 with a splash of water in the bottom tray. Has anyone else had to deal with a smoky kitchen from crispy bacon?

...so my buddy Mark tried this same thing last weekend and his whole apartment complex almost got evacuated. He put a whole pound of thick cut bacon in his little air fryer at 400 and didn't check on it for like 15 minutes. The smoke was so bad his neighbor two doors down called the fire department thinking there was an actual fire. By the time he got it pulled out the bacon was basically charcoal and the grease had pooled up and was smoking like crazy. He had to open all the windows and run fans for two hours just to get the smell out. Now he just uses a sheet pan in the oven at 375 and it works way better without the smoke show.

Oh goodness, mine went off three times before I finally just took the bacon outside to a separate pan.
