Can we talk about how long it took me to realize my torque wrench was clicking because I had it set to inch-pounds instead of foot-pounds?
I spent two years torquing landing gear bolts way under spec because I never checked the unit marking on the dial, and it took a senior mechanic catching me on a 727 wheel hub to point out my mistake so now I always double check before I start cranking.

Man I had a buddy who was rebuilding a small block Chevy in his garage. He spent a whole weekend torquing the cylinder head bolts all careful like. Engine ran fine for about 200 miles then popped a head gasket. Turns out his beam style torque wrench only went to 150 foot pounds and the spec was 65, but he never noticed the scale was in inch pounds the whole time. He felt like such a dummy when I pointed it out. Cost him a new gasket set and a Saturday of his life.

Used to think it didn't matter that much as long as you got close enough. After seeing a buddy snap a bolt because he mixed up the units, I check every time now.
