PSA: I thought the "loose bolt" call from a new guy was a joke until I found the crack myself on a King Air in Wichita
A kid fresh out of A&P school told me last Tuesday that he felt a slight give on a wing bolt during a 100 hour on a King Air 200 here in Wichita and I blew him off, figured he was just nervous and over torquing his wrench. Two days later I was doing the same panel and put my hand on the same spot and felt it, that tiny bit of movement you should never feel. Pulled the bolt and the hole had a hairline crack running out from the edge, maybe a quarter inch. Sent it to NDT and they found a second one on the other side that I would have signed off without thinking twice. I have been doing this 14 years and that kid saved me from a really bad signoff. Now I want to know, how many of you actually check the torque on hardware you did not install yourself or do you trust the last guy's log entry?
