Snap-on vs the $40 torque wrench, 11 years of bad habits

I torqued main bearing caps for over a decade using that clicker style and always just let it go one extra click because that's how my old lead taught me in Mobile. Then last month I got a digital test unit and found my wrench was hitting 15 percent low, so I had been under-torquing every engine I touched. How many of you have actually checked your own torque tools on a tester, or do we all just trust the click until something fails?

Took my 15-year-old clicker to a calibration shop last spring, cost me 50 bucks but man was that worth it.

worth it" is an understatement honestly. That's the price of a cheap dinner for decades of accuracy. People sleep on calibration until they actually see the difference it makes. It's like getting a whole new tool for 50 bucks. Best money I've spent on my gear in years.
