Spent 6 hours tracking down a hydraulic leak on a Cessna 172 that turned out to be a cracked O-ring smaller than my pinky nail

What's the longest you've ever chased a simple problem that should have been obvious but somehow took forever to find?

Did you ever find yourself staring at something for an hour before it finally clicked?

I actually read a study once about how our brains process familiar problems differently. It said that when you step away and come back, your brain has been working on it in the background, like your subconscious keeps picking at it. @the_william I think that's what happens when you stare at something for an hour and nothing's clicking - you're just waiting for those background connections to line up. I've had it happen with a stubborn puzzle or even just trying to remember a word that's on the tip of my tongue. It's funny how you can force it for so long and then it just hits you when you stop trying.
