Unpopular opinion: the torque wrench adapter I got off the truck beats the factory one, and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't
I've been fighting a stuck bolt on a King Air flap actuator all week at the shop in Wichita, and the factory adapter kept slipping off at 40 inch pounds no matter how I seated it. Picked up a cheap wobble extension from the tool truck on a whim, and it grabbed first try and held through the whole torque sequence.
The factory one has a fat head that won't clear the bracket, so you end up at a dumb angle and lose your reading. The cheap one is thinner, flexes just enough, and clicks clean every time without me having to reset the wrench mid-pull.
I know some guys will say you're gambling with a calibrated tool and I get that. But when the book calls for 40 to 50 inch pounds and you can't get a straight shot, what's the actual move here. Anyone got a brand they trust for tight spots, or am I just getting lucky with this one?
Tbh the flex is the part that's hurting you, not helping. A wobble or flex extension changes the actual torque you put on the bolt, so the wrench clicks clean but you're not really hitting 40. For tight spots you want a thin wall straight socket or a short rigid adapter, not something that bends.
