How my view on battery backups shifted after a storm outage

Honestly, I never used to push for battery backups in alarm setups. But after a big storm knocked out power and I got calls from clients with dead systems, I always recommend them now. It just makes sense to keep things running.

Read an article last year about how power outages from bad weather are getting more common. The piece said a lot of folks don't realize their alarm panels can drain a backup battery in just a few hours if the main power is gone. Makes you wonder how many systems are just ticking along without any real protection.

Wait, you had clients with dead systems after a storm? That's pretty shocking since a backup is basic for any alarm setup. No wonder you changed your mind on recommending them now.

Seriously, I saw a thing online where they said a lot of those backup batteries only last like a day or two in a real outage. So if the power's out for a week after a big storm, you're totally exposed. It's kinda scary how many people probably don't know that.
