Just had a 3 hour fight with a 'smart' thermostat that was killing a zone on a new install

My buddy had a Nest that kept locking him out of his own AC schedule. The thing would decide it was 90 degrees in the house when it was actually 65. He spent a whole Saturday on the phone with support before they figured out it was a bad sensor reading from the app. Sometimes the smart tech is just dumb.

Ugh, I feel that. My Ecobee kept shutting down the upstairs unit last winter. I mean, it was reading the temperature from the wrong sensor entirely, like from the sunny hallway instead of the actual bedroom. I had to go into the secret installer settings and manually tell it which sensor to use for that zone. Took me forever to even find that menu.

The part about "secret installer settings" kinda bugs me - was that hidden behind a specific combination of button presses or did you have to use the app to find it? I hate when manufacturers bury the actual useful controls in menus that feel like easter eggs rather than settings. Makes me wonder if they do that on purpose so people just give up and deal with the defaults.
