Keypad battery drain mystery finally solved after 8 months

I had this Honeywell keypad that kept eating AA batteries every 3 weeks no matter what. Customer in Austin was getting frustrated because they'd already paid for two service calls with another company. I swapped the panel battery, checked the transformer voltage, even replaced the keypad itself once. Still kept draining. Then I noticed the tamper switch was barely touching the wall plate, so the keypad was constantly waking up to report a tamper condition. One little shim behind the switch and it's been 11 weeks on the same set of batteries. Has anyone else run into a tamper switch causing phantom current draw like that? It seems like such a dumb thing to overlook but it cost way more time than I'd like to admit.
