My boss told me to always test the backup battery with a load, not just a meter
I ignored it on a job in Austin last month and the whole panel went dark during a power flicker. Anyone have a good load tester they trust?

Yeah, learned that the hard way too. My old Fluke load bank tester has never let me down.

See, I gotta disagree a little... sometimes the so-called shortcut ends up being the better move down the road, depends on the situation.

Man, that Austin story is the perfect example of why shortcuts never work. I see it everywhere, like skipping the test drive on a used car. Taraw16 is right about a good load tester, my old Klixon unit does the same job. It's just one of those things you have to do right the first time.
