That one customer who insisted on a DIY install still haunts me

Last spring I got called to a house in Tacoma because a homeowner had tried to wire up their own panel after watching some YouTube video. They used speaker wire for the door contacts and zip ties to hold the keypad to the drywall. The guy was proud of it too, said he saved $400 doing it himself. I had to spend an hour untangling his mess just to find the main board was fried because he hooked the transformer to the wrong terminals. He kept asking why I couldn't just patch it and leave, and I had to explain that a half-working system is worse than none. Anyone else run into a client like this who fought you on every fix?
