TIL some guys still think a 12V battery backup is optional for a basic home system

Had to rewire a whole job in Springfield after the new owner's power went out and his siren chirped once then died. How many of you actually test the backup under load before you leave a site?

We always hook up a test light to the battery leads first.

A test light doesn't show you if the battery can handle the actual siren load though.
