Vent: overheard a guy at the supply house completely badmouthing dual-tech sensors
I was picking up some wire at the ADI branch on Route 9 in Marlboro and this older installer was loudly telling the counter guy that dual-tech sensors are junk and he never uses them. Said they false alarm more than they catch real threats. That just doesn't match my experience at all. I install Bosch Blue Line Gen2 dual-techs on most commercial jobs and maybe get a callback once a year if that. Any of you guys seen reliability issues with them or is this guy just old school stubborn?

The older guys always seem to have one brand or type they swear is garbage and it's usually something they tried once ten years ago and never touched again. Dual-techs have been solid for me too, same Bosch line you mentioned, and I think a lot of the hate comes from people refusing to adjust sensitivity settings to match the space. It's like how my dad still insists that any car made after 2005 is "too computerized" and will leave you stranded. Stubbornness is a hell of a drug, same as it ever was.

Sarah is spot on about the sensitivity thing. I had a job at a medical office a few years ago where the first guy they hired swore up and down that dual-techs were trash because he kept getting calls about the break room motion detector going off at night. Turns out he had it cranked up to max sensitivity and there was a damn vending machine that hummed and vibrated just enough to set it off. I swapped in a Bosch dual-tech, dialed it down to medium with a pulse count of two, and it never false alarmed again. That installer at ADI probably had one bad experience twenty years ago with an old C&K unit that weighed five pounds and couldn't tell a cat from a tornado and he's been telling everyone about it ever since. My dad is exactly the same way with Toyota trucks, he had a bad alternator in a 1993 Tacoma and now he thinks every Toyota after that is junk. Some guys just can't let go.
