Walked into a new build in Tulsa and the panel was mounted 18 inches off the floor in a closet
Was doing a rough-in walk in a new build in Tulsa a couple months back and noticed the electrician had put the can in the master closet, buried behind where the hanging rod would go. I get it, they want it out of sight, but no way to swing the door open and work on it without pulling clothes out first. I ended up moving it to the laundry room wall and running new home runs, which added about 3 hours. Anyone got a good way to argue placement with builders before drywall goes up? Feels like I'm always fighting the same battle.
Putting a panel behind a hanging rod is a code problem, not just a pain. You need 36 inches of clear working space in front of it, and clothes hanging in the way means nobody can service it. I'd bring the inspector into it early, since most of them will back you up on that without blinking. Builders listen a lot faster when it's the guy with the clipboard saying it instead of us.
