A park ranger near Seward changed how I see glacier hikes

Back in June I was on the Exit Glacier trail and this ranger just started chatting with me about how the toe has pulled back almost 2 miles since 1990. He pointed at these little rocks and said every one of them used to be buried under a hundred feet of ice. That hit different because I had been walking right over what used to be solid ground, no idea. She said hikers who come back after 5 years always notice the change, and it made me think about my own casual visits. Has anyone else had a local or ranger drop a fact that totally reframed a familiar spot?
