A ranger at Denali told me to stop carrying bear spray on my hip and it changed my whole setup
Two summers back I was on the Savage River trail and a ranger stopped me at the bridge. She said a hip holster is the worst spot because your arm swings there and a startled bear goes for the movement first. She had me move it to a chest strap and practice drawing it 10 times right there on the spot. I have done it that way on every hike since, including a trip up to Flattop in August where I never needed it. Anyone else had a ranger change how they carry gear out there?
