Appreciation post: A pilot in Talkeetna mentioned the real reason for the midnight sun

He said it's not just about long days, but how it messes with your sense of time until you learn to go by activity, not the clock. I tried that last week, fishing at 10pm because the light was good, and it felt completely normal. How do you adjust your schedule during the summer up here?

Honestly, is it that big of a deal? People act like they've unlocked some secret life hack. It's just summer, it stays light out. You eat when you're hungry and sleep when you're tired, that's pretty basic. Doesn't everyone do that on vacation anyway?

Read a blog once where someone called it "solar time" instead of "clock time." That idea totally stuck with me. I gave up on regular meal times last summer and just ate when I got hungry. It felt weird for about two days, then it was completely freeing. My body just sort of figured it out without the numbers on a clock telling it what to do. The hard part is remembering other people might still be on a normal schedule.

Tried that and my stomach got way happier.

Forget the clock, just live.
