Aurora sightings were spontaneous, now they're planned events.

The magic fades when you need a phone alert to see it.

Come on, is it really that big of a deal? People used to miss the northern lights all the time because they had no way to know when it would happen. Now, with alerts, folks can actually plan to see it instead of just hoping. That seems more fair, not less magical. It's like complaining that weather forecasts ruin the surprise of rain.

My friend drove out to a dark spot after getting an alert last week. He said the parking lot was full of cars with headlights and people on phones. The whole thing felt more like waiting in line than seeing something wild.

Yeah I get your point @smith.ben, but I read this article about how light pollution is the real killer. The alerts just make it a crowded event now, takes away the quiet wonder of it all lol.
