Can we talk about using bear spray in Anchorage city parks?

I carried a can for three summers, convinced I was being safe, until a wildlife officer in Kincaid Park asked if I'd ever actually practiced deploying it. I hadn't, and he pointed out that fumbling with the safety in a real moment could be worse than having nothing. How many people actually train with their bear spray before heading out?
