Chose a ski plane over a snowmachine to reach my cabin, now I know why people walk

Last March I needed to get to my friend's place near Talkeetna and picked a 45-minute flight over a 6-hour snowmachine ride. The pilot landed on a frozen lake that looked solid enough, but we sank six inches on touchdown and he just laughed while I gripped my seat. Has anyone else had a flight in Alaska that felt way sketchier than the ride they skipped?
