Denali gave me 3 clear days last June and it hit me why the mountain makes its own weather
Sitting at the 14 camp watching a whiteout roll in off the west buttress at 4pm after a perfect bluebird morning, I finally got why the rangers say plan for 10 days and hope for 4. A guide named Pete told me the summit is really only climbable like 30 percent of the time in a season, which is why so many people walk away from Talkeetna with nothing. Anyone else get skunked by the weather up there and go back for a second try?
