Dropped $600 on a snow machine that died after 3 trips near Anchorage

Bought a used Ski-Doo from a guy on Craigslist who swore it was rebuilt last season. Third time out by Hatcher Pass, the engine just seized up on a flat stretch. No smoke, no warning, just dead. Took it to a shop in Wasilla and they found the guy had patched the crankcase with JB Weld. Tried to get my money back but the number was disconnected. Anyone else get burned by a garbage private sale up here?

That Hatcher Pass area is brutal for sleds with hidden damage. I had a buddy lose a motor up there from a bad Craigslist buy too. Always run a compression test before handing over cash anywhere near Anchorage.

Yeah @milar46, compression tests are a must up here. My cousin's buddy bought a triple that looked mint from a guy in Wasilla, turned out the crank bearings were shot after one ride. We spent a whole weekend swapping it out, never again without checking first.
