Finally got my skiff motor running after a full winter in the shed

It was just sitting there since October, and I was sure the carb was gummed up for good. I took it apart last weekend, cleaned every jet with a can of Berryman's, and put in fresh gas. Cranked it over yesterday evening on the trailer, and it fired right up on the third pull. That first puff of blue smoke out over the Knik River mudflats felt like a real victory. Anyone else have a spring ritual like this that always makes you nervous?

Honestly, a full winter in the shed and it fired on the third pull? Tbh that's some kind of miracle with a small engine. I'd have bet money you were rebuilding that carb.

Yeah, betting on a carb rebuild would have been the smart money... I'm pretty sure the engine gods just felt bad for me. I spent all last fall forgetting to add fuel stabilizer, so I was already planning my apology speech to the mower. At this point, I'm afraid to even look at it sideways in case it changes its mind.
