Finally saw the northern lights from my own backyard in Fairbanks!

After living here for three years and always missing them or having cloudy skies, I got a text from my neighbor Sue last Tuesday night saying 'look up now!' and ran outside. The whole sky was dancing with green and purple ribbons for almost an hour, and it was so quiet and cold. Has anyone else had a first viewing that just felt perfectly timed like that?

It's funny how the best stuff always seems to happen when you stop trying so hard to make it happen. You spend years chasing something and then it just falls in your lap on a random Tuesday. Makes you wonder what else we're missing because we're looking too hard, lol. That quiet, cold moment with the sky dancing sounds absolutely perfect.

Right? Like the universe finally decided to pay up.

Oh man, that sounds incredible! I'm in Anchorage so I've had a few close calls but never like that. There's something special about it just happening out of nowhere, especially from a neighbor's text. It's like the universe knew you needed that moment after three years of waiting. Totally get what you mean about the quiet cold too - that contrast with the loud colors in the sky just makes it feel almost surreal.
