Heard a kid call snow "noise" and it hit me different
I was at the gas station in Fairbanks last week and this teenager on the phone said the snow was making too much "noise" outside, like it was annoying him or something. Made me remember when I was his age and a -40 cold snap meant you just stayed home and didn't complain about it. Do you think folks moving up here now see winter more as an inconvenience than just part of life?

It's a different world now for sure. People move up here for the Instagram shots but don't want to deal with the reality of winter slowing everything down. Hustle culture has people thinking they need to be productive 24/7, even when it's 40 below. Snow is just background noise (literally, I guess) to them instead of a force of nature you respect. Call it soft or just different priorities, but the relationship with winter has definitely shifted.

Man, that's a good point. Is it really that people are softer now, or is it that the cost of living and the whole "hustle culture" thing just doesn't leave room for a person to slow down for the weather like we used to?

Hustle culture in a snowstorm feels like showing up to a potluck when you forgot the dish. Most of us are just trying to defrost our cars and get coffee without looking like a human popsicle. Maybe the secret is that winter's always won, we just used to accept the L with better grace.
