Hot take: My old 4-season tent from a big box store was a joke compared to the Hilleberg I borrowed for a trip out of Talkeetna.

The Hilleberg held up perfectly in a 3-day windstorm on the tundra while my old one would have shredded, so what's your go-to shelter for serious Alaska weather?

Seriously though, how many of us are actually camping in that kind of weather? My cheap tent has been fine for years of regular trips.

Genuine question, how many people are actually dealing with three-day tundra windstorms? Most of us are just trying to keep the rain off during a weekend hike. That old big box tent probably works fine for 95% of trips. It sounds like you went on a truly wild expedition, which is awesome, but maybe not the normal use case.

My buddy's Ozark Trail tent shredded in a 20mph gust, @the_eva.
