I doubted the 'mosquito head net' hype until a trip to the Kenai last July.

I thought it was silly gear for wimps, but after 15 minutes outside with swarms so thick I was breathing them, my buddy's spare net saved the whole fishing day, so what's one piece of gear you initially mocked but now swear by?

Got a bit off track from the original post but it connects to a bigger pattern I've noticed with people. Most folks will spend hours fighting with cheap gear or bad methods instead of just getting the one tool that actually works. @bettyk53 your neighbor's exterminator story is a perfect example of overkill but it goes both ways. People either go full hazmat on a tiny problem or refuse to use a simple net for a massive swarm. The real takeaway is that we all have our blind spots, and it's usually the cheap lightweight fix we laughed at that ends up saving us time and frustration later.

Reminds me of my neighbor who called an exterminator for one wasp nest. Guy shows up in a full hazmat suit, sealed the whole yard with caution tape. Felt like a scene from a movie for something a hose could have handled.
