I finally understood why you never ignore the tide tables around here
Was beachcombing near Homer last week and got caught by a fast incoming tide. My truck was parked on what I thought was high ground, but the water rose quicker than expected. It took a tow truck and a very wet, cold wait to get it unstuck. Now I check the charts twice before heading out.

Why didn't you check the tables before parking?

Or maybe you just trusted the spot looked safe?

You know, I always thought checking tide tables was for people who were too careful! But after my own close call last summer, I totally changed my mind. I was out near Kachemak Bay and the water came in so fast I had to sprint to my car. My boots were soaked and I almost lost a backpack to the surf. Now I have a tide app on my phone and check it before I even leave the house. It's just not worth the risk anymore.
