Just realized I wasted $200 on bear spray I never used
Bought a big can of bear spray from REI in Anchorage before a hiking trip to Hatcher Pass last July. Carried it around for 3 days on my belt, didn't see a single bear the whole time. Then I left it in my car on a hot day and it started leaking all over the back seat. Now I just borrow from the rental shack at the trailhead for free. Anyone else got gear they bought once and never touched?

Traded a near-new pair of crampons for a six pack of beer after using them exactly once on a patch of ice that was maybe 20 feet long. The guy I traded with prob thought he got a deal, but really he just saved me from looking at them in my trunk for another year. Left a water filter in the bottom of a backpack for 6 months, found it, and just threw the whole thing away cause I forgot to clean it. Now I just filter with coffee filters and a funnel if I really need to, which is never.

Yeah the coffee filter thing is pretty genius honestly. I've done the same thing with paper towels in a pinch and it works fine. But that moldy filter story hurts because I did the exact same thing with a sawyer squeeze last summer. It's a bummer how much gear just sits around waiting for us to use it.
