Met a guy in Talkeetna who said the real Alaska isn't on the road system

I used to think seeing the main towns was enough. Then I met a pilot named Mike at the Fairview Inn who flies supplies to the bush. He said, 'You haven't felt the quiet until you've been 50 miles from the nearest road.' He offered to show me a map of where he goes. Now I'm saving up for a flightseeing trip out to Lake Clark. Anyone know a good operator for that?

Remember hearing a glacier crack from a plane... sounded like the whole world breaking.

Sounds like nature giving its final warning.

And actually, Lake Clark is totally worth the trip, but don't limit yourself to just the flightseeing tours. The real magic is getting dropped off at one of those remote cabins for a few days with no plans but your own. I did a trip with Alaska Alpine Adventures out of Anchorage and the quiet out there really is something else, it's not just a gimmick.
