My first halibut finally hit the deck after 3 skunked trips

I was out near Homer last weekend on a six-pack charter and after three straight trips coming home with nothing, I finally landed a 45 pound flatty. The captain showed me how to read the bottom contour on the fishfinder differently, which made all the difference. Anyone else have that one piece of gear or advice that turned their luck around up here?

Oh man, that's a great feeling when it finally clicks! It's funny how one little thing (like reading the bottom differently) can totally change the game, not just in fishing but in most stuff we do. I've noticed that pattern everywhere, it's like once you learn the hidden trick to anything, it all falls into place.

@clark.iris what was the one hidden trick that finally made fishing click for you? I'm still trying to figure out how to read the water right lol.
