My first winter tire experiment in Fairbanks went sideways

Put studded Nokians on my Subaru in October before the snow hit, and the dry pavement noise drove me nuts for 2 weeks. Then the ice came in November and I passed three trucks in a ditch on the Steese Highway without slipping once. Realized the tradeoff is worth it, but now I'm wondering if anyone else rotates back to all-seasons in spring or just leaves them on until May?

Wondering if you actually measured your tread wear after those dry weeks, because that's the part that always makes me swap back early. The studs get chewed up fast on bare pavement, but did you notice any real difference in stopping distance when it warmed up?
