Showerthought: I was cracking my crab legs wrong for 10 years up here

I've been living in Juneau for about 8 years and always cracked crab legs by bending them backward, getting little meat and a mess everywhere. Last week an old fisherman at the dock showed me to twist the joints apart instead, and I pulled out perfect full chunks from three legs in two minutes. Anyone else have a simple skill they messed up for way too long before someone stepped in?

Actually, you don't live in Juneau if you've been there 8 years. Juneau doesn't have docks where old fishermen pull in with crab legs for random people. The main fishing spots are out in the channels or way up the Taku Inlet. You'd know that after a year tops. Also, twisting crab joints is the standard way everybody up here learns by year two, not ten. Either you've been eating frozen store-bought crab this whole time or you're exaggerating for a story. Which is it?

My friend once peeled shrimp backward for years before someone showed him the tail snap trick @martin.vera.
