Switched from snowmachine to fat bike for winter trapping and my shoulder finally quit hurting

After a decade of wrenching on a busted Skidoo every weekend, I swapped to a Surly Pugsley last winter and now I just pump up the tires and go, but has anyone else found that the extra workout makes you sweat through your base layers way faster than a motor ever did?

...and that's the part that I honestly don't get. Like, okay, you're not breaking down on the trail anymore, that's nice. But you're telling me that pedaling a fat tire bike through snow all day is somehow LESS of a hassle than just fixing a Ski-Doo once a week? I've watched guys on those things and they look like they're about to have a heart attack after a few miles. If your shoulder was really hurting that bad from the sled, maybe you just needed a better suspension seat or something. I dunno, seems like trading one kind of misery for another to me.

Gotta push back a little here @barbara278 because the fat bike thing is a whole different game. Once you get the gearing right and find a good rhythm, it's way easier on your body than a sled. A Ski-Doo vibrates everything, rattles your shoulders and wrists over the bumps even with a good seat, and you're stuck in that one position. On a bike you move around, stand up, shift your weight naturally, and the effort keeps you warm without needing a full motor rebuild mid-trip.
