That river taxi ride in Ketchikan cost me more than a flight to Anchorage

I was planning a trip to Misty Fjords and looked up a water taxi from Ketchikan to get there. Turns out a round trip for two people runs about $320, which is actually more than I paid for my one-way flight from Seattle to Anchorage back in April. Did anyone else get sticker shock on transportation costs up here, or am I just bad at budgeting for Alaska travel?

Man, that's wild! It's like a weird pattern I've noticed where the "getting there" part of a trip ends up costing more than the main destination itself. I booked a cabin near Denali last summer and the rental car to get out of Anchorage was pricier than my flight from Chicago, which just feels backwards (you know?). It really makes you rethink how you plan the whole journey, not just the big landmarks.

That rental car thing is a killer. Best trick I've found is to check third party rental sites but also look at off airport locations sometimes they're way cheaper. Did you check Turo while you were up there?
