The food court at the Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall is a total letdown for locals
I stopped in last Tuesday for lunch and watched tourists pay $18 for a sad plate of halibut that was clearly frozen, not fresh. Has anyone else given up on eating there and found a better spot downtown that actually knows what to do with local seafood?

Did you try the little place on 4th Avenue, down near the courthouse? That spot saved me after I got a rubbery piece of "fresh" salmon at the mall last year. I walked in and the guy behind the counter pointed to a chalkboard listing the boat that caught the halibut that morning. Their fish and chips had a real crispy batter, and the fish was flaky and sweet, not that frozen mush.

Agreed that chalkboard listing the boat caught my eye too, totally changed how I trust a fish counter.
