The Matanuska Glacier in 2003 vs when I went back last summer
When I first hiked out there two decades ago you could walk right up and touch the ice face after maybe a 20 minute walk from the pullout. Last July the same walk took almost an hour and the face was way back from where it used to sit. Anyone else notice the difference at their old spots, or is it just me remembering wrong?
Glaciers don't really retreat that fast from memory alone, so you're probably right. Took a walk out there in 2019 and even then the ice was way back from old trail markers.
