The way people drive in Anchorage during first snow always catches me off guard
I moved here 4 years ago from Portland and I still can't get over how everyone forgets how to drive on the first snowfall every single year. Last October I saw 7 cars spun out on the Seward Highway by 8am. Like, you live in Alaska, it snows here every winter. How are people still doing 60 on summer tires when the flakes start flying? Has anyone else noticed this pattern never changes no matter how many years go by?

Must respectfully disagree here. Natives just react faster to slick roads.

Must be all that extra practice they get dodging moose on the back roads. Pretty soon they'll be teaching classes on how to drive on black ice while balancing a cup of hot coffee. You can spot the tourists from a mile away when they start fishtailing at the first sign of frost.

So you're telling me we've all been out here overthinking winter driving while the locals just have faster reflexes than the rest of us? Guess my ten years of slipping and sliding on these same roads haven't quite kicked in yet, maybe I need some of that moose-dodging practice after all. I'll just stick to gripping the steering wheel at 10 and 2 while they zip past me doing their secret native driver training.
