Thought I could drive the Denali Highway on my car's donut spare, and a guy at the Cantwell gas stop set me straight
Two summers ago I blew a tire outside Paxson and figured the little donut spare would get me the 130 miles into Cantwell, no problem. The older guy running the pump there took one look at my car and said flat out, 'That spare is rated for 50 miles at 50, you'll cook the rear diff before you hit the Maclaren summit.' He had a plug kit and actually patched my real tire behind the shop for 20 bucks while I ate a sad sandwich. Now I carry a full size spare and a plug kit on every trip, how do you all handle tires on the gravel stretches?
