Tried sprucing up my cabin with cheap LED strip lights from Amazon - what a disaster
Bought a $30 roll of LED strip lights off Amazon last month to line the ceiling of my dry cabin near Fairbanks. Figured it’d be a quick way to get some light without running a ton of power. After three weeks, half the strips stopped working and started flickering like crazy. A buddy who runs a lodge told me I should’ve spent at least $80 on marine-grade lights that can handle the cold and moisture up here. He was right - the cheap ones just can’t take -40 winters. Anyone else learn that lesson the hard way with camp gear or cabin upgrades?

Why not just buy a cheap generator and run real lights instead?

@gavins43 generators have their own headaches with fuel and noise though. Those cheap LED strips are a total scam for cold climates, same thing happened to my buddy up in Nome with a $25 set. Marine-grade or bust up here, learned that lesson on my second cabin rewire.
